Since I was a kid, travel has been woven into the fabric of my life. Born in Sri Lanka, I took my very first flight just a few months old, when my parents brought me to Doha, Qatar.

Growing up, I watched my dad travel to places like Geneva in Switzerland, and the idea of boarding a plane to explore somewhere new started to take root in my mind. I was hooked.

By the time I was old enough to dream about the future, I knew one thing for sure: I wanted to create a life where I could jump on a plane and go anywhere, anytime.

That dream didn’t happen overnight; it was built step by step, fueled by my fascination with travel and my determination to create a lifestyle that could sustain it.

Today, I run my digital services agency, ClickDo and SeekaHost, my web hosting company, while traveling the world.

I’m here to share my journey with you, in hopes of inspiring anyone who feels the call to live and work freely, as a digital nomad or remote entrepreneur.

The Seeds of a Nomadic Life

From a young age, travel was more than just moving from one place to another; it was about experiencing the world, discovering new places, and living a life full of freedom. Watching my dad travel made me realize that there was an entire world out there waiting to be explored. I didn’t just want to visit places; I wanted the freedom to go wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted, for as long as I wanted.

As I got older, I started to understand that building a life of travel requires more than just a desire to explore. It takes a lifestyle that’s adaptable, flexible, and self-sustaining. I became focused on building a career that wouldn’t tie me to a single location, and that’s when I began to explore the possibilities of digital skills and online business.

Finding My Path in SEO and Digital Marketing Services Business

When I began my journey as a freelance SEO consultant, I didn’t fully realize it would be the gateway to my nomadic life. I was attracted to the idea of helping businesses grow online, and SEO seemed like the perfect skill to develop. Little did I know it would be the foundation of a location-independent career that would allow me to build a business while traveling.

Working as an SEO consultant taught me valuable digital marketing skills, from content creation to website optimization. I was able to work with clients across the globe, right from my laptop, as long as I had an internet connection. This early phase of freelancing gave me the flexibility I wanted, but I knew I could take it further.

With my skill set growing, I saw the potential to create something bigger—something that could operate with or without my daily involvement. That’s when the idea of starting my own agency took root.

Building an Agency to Run From Anywhere

Starting a digital services agency in London was the next big step. I knew that if I could create a team of skilled professionals to manage client work, I would be free to focus on scaling the business while traveling. So, I began hiring people who were not just skilled but also aligned with my vision. I looked for people who understood the importance of flexibility and shared my passion for growth.

As the agency grew, so did my confidence in its ability to run itself with minimal oversight. I was able to train team members to manage key aspects of the business, and this allowed me to step back and pursue the lifestyle I’d always dreamed of. This shift was a game-changer. Now, I could travel and explore, knowing my business was in capable hands.

Launching SeekaHost: Building a Self-Sustaining Web Hosting Company

While my agency gave me the freedom to move around, I knew that having multiple streams of income would provide even more security. This led me to start SeekaHost, a web hosting company focused on helping people and businesses establish their online presence. Building SeekaHost was about more than just income—it was about creating a business that would provide real value to others while giving me the flexibility to travel and explore the world.

I applied the same principles I used in my agency: building a strong team and creating systems that allowed the company to run without me being there 24/7. This approach worked. As SeekaHost grew, so did my freedom. I was no longer tethered to a single location; I could be anywhere in the world and still manage my business.

Travel as a Source of Inspiration and Growth Mindset

Travel isn’t just a hobby for me; it’s a part of my creative and entrepreneurial process. There’s something about being in new environments, meeting different people, and experiencing diverse cultures that fuels my ideas and drives me to push my businesses further.

Some of my best ideas have come to me while swimming in the calm waters of the Greek seas or walking through bustling cities in Asia. Travel allows me to see things from new perspectives, and this has been invaluable in helping me grow my business.

I also believe in the power of documenting life. Recording my travels and experiences has become a game-changer for me, adding another layer of meaning to my journeys. Documenting my life not only allows me to capture memories but also gives me a way to share my insights and lessons with others. It has become a way to reflect, grow, and inspire.

You Can Create Your Own Nomadic Lifestyle in the Digital Economy

If there’s one thing my journey has taught me, it’s that anyone can build a life of freedom and exploration. You don’t need a huge amount of money or a head start in life. What you do need is a willingness to learn digital skills, a commitment to building something sustainable, and the courage to take the leap.

Here are some steps to help you get started on your own journey:

  1. Learn a Digital Skill: Skills like SEO, content creation, digital marketing, or web development are in high demand and can be done from anywhere in the world. Start with something that interests you and invest time in mastering it.
  2. Start Freelancing: Begin by working with clients remotely. This will help you gain experience and start earning an income that isn’t tied to a specific location.
  3. Build a Business That Operates Independently: Once you have some experience, think about ways to turn your freelance work into a business. Hire a team, set up systems, and automate as much as possible so the business can run without your constant involvement.
  4. Create Multiple Streams of Income: Diversifying your income can provide stability and make it easier to travel without financial stress. This could mean offering a variety of services or starting a second business, like I did with SeekaHost.
  5. Document Your Journey: Sharing your experiences can be both fulfilling and inspiring. Whether through a blog, social media, or videos, documenting your journey can help you connect with others and reflect on how far you’ve come.

An Invitation to Build a Different Life

Creating a life of freedom and adventure isn’t reserved for a select few. With today’s technology and the ability to learn almost any skill online, anyone can take steps toward building a life they love. If you have a dream of traveling the world, working remotely, or becoming a digital nomad, there’s no better time to start than now.

I invite you to challenge the status quo, to explore the possibilities of remote work, and to build a life that aligns with your passions. Start small, stay consistent, and remember that the journey itself is the reward. I believe that with the right mindset and tools, anyone can live a life of freedom, purpose, and endless adventure.

Live your dream, and perhaps one day we’ll meet somewhere out there in this big, beautiful world. Safe travels, and happy building!
